Online Business Brain Dump - Limit Your SourcesSubmitted by brentriggs Mon, 22 Oct 2007
There are many companies that claim to offer 100,000, even 1,000,000 products for you to sell. Let me warn you. Be careful!
It is difficult enough to effectively market and advertise when you have 10 products, much less 10,000. You have most likely heard of smaller companies who grow too large, too quickly. That can be a real problem for a small online business. The key is to stay focused! It is much easier to become an "expert" in your field if you have a narrow product line to work with. It is better because you are then able to FOCUS all of your efforts on it. You'll want to make your business a niche' market and capitalize on it. You may be tempted to sell "everything under the sun." The truth is that specializing in a specific, quality product will be much more profitable for you than attempting to offer a little bit of everything in your inventory. If you try to meet the needs of all potential online customers, you'll find yourself going crazy! One proven option is to find a drop shipping source that you feel confident in - one that dedicates themselves to drop shipping specifically. A great resource for finding these drop ship suppliers is http://www.worldwidebrands.com. These drop shippers will send the products to your customers after you've made the sale, and you don't have to house the inventory. You will find a lot of quality products to sell on their site and you can learn more about drop-shipping in general. There are many businesses that offer drop shipping services, but unfortunately, it is not their primary focus and it shows! Their drop shipping services seem to be an afterthought because their primary business is always going to be BULK wholesale. After you begin dealing with these types of sources, you might find that the tools and support that you need as a distributor is not quite adequate to meet your needs. Even worse, the tools and support may not exist at all! For instance, you might need access to inventory counts, quality images and descriptions from downloadable catalogs, and online package tracking. If these services are not available, you might consider looking elsewhere. Here are some great places to check out for products to sell: Electronics, DVD's, Books www.ingrambook.com www.techdata.com Housewares and Hardware www.housewares.org www.nationalhardwareshow.com Vitamins and Consumables www.expoeast.com www.expowest.com Thomas Register www.thomasnet.com Drop Shipping Source www.dropshipsource.com Digital Products www.clickbank.com www.cj.com (Note: This article is part of a mini-course with twenty lessons.
