Ornamental plants fulfill important decorative functions to any outdoor space. As plants with attractive color, shape, texture, fragrance or fruit; the location of ornamentals in a garden should be given due consideration. Apart from being ornamental, these plants can also be used as foundation planting or even be used for seasoning and cooking. Below is a list of popular ornamental plants and their characteristics.

Roses-Roses are perennial flowering shrubs or vines from the family, Rosaceae. Roses are a group of herbaceous shrubs found in temperate regions throughout both hemispheres. They are widely grown for their beauty and fragrance. More than 10,000 roses are known in cultivation and three types of odors are recognized, such as those of the Cabbage Rose Rosa centifolia, the Damask Rose Rosa damascene and the Tea Rose Rosa indica.

Petunias-are annual, low-growing shrubs with trumpet-shaped, colorful flowers. Petunias belong to the Solanaceae family from South America, also related to the potato and tobacco plant. They bloom all summer with little maintenance and make perfect centerpieces to containers and hanging baskets, and serve as good low bordering color to gardens.

Geraniums - Geraniums are a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennials, succulents, and shrubs. They are extremely popular garden plants, grown as annuals in temperate climates, and thousands of ornamental cultivars have been developed from about 20 of the species. Geraniums come in a variety of red, pink, yellow, orange and white blooms. They grow well and are suited in plant boxes, hanging baskets, pots and other containers.

Cultivating and selling ornamental plants in a nursery or a small plant business can be financially and aesthetically rewarding. When starting an ornamental plant business, printed marketing materials can serve as effective and affordable mediums. Examples of these printed materials include brochures, flyers, booklets, rack cards, and catalogs. Designing and printing them is easy and convenient using online printing services. UPrinting, for example, is an online printer that offers discounts through online discount coupon sites.
