Local, indigenous communities have a culture of weaving using organic plant fibers and dyes found in their local environment. Often weaving was done to produce practical, domestic items such as storage bags, baskets or basinets. However, local communities today have ventured into an enterprise of selling their artful creations. The craft and native materials combined with modern, manufacturing processes transformed daily, domestic items into designer handbags for all occasions. These designer hand bags have long since inspired the indigenous, "woven" look of brands like Balenciaga or Anne Klein. The difference is that designer handbags from local communities are made and sold directly from the source and are of equally high quality for much less. Below are examples of plant fibers used to make designer handbags:

Rota/Rattan plant - the fibers of this plant are very pliable. Its raw color is a varied shade of corn yellow and can be finished with different varnish and paints colors. Rattan fibers come from one of the strongest timbers available.

Buntal plant - The fibers of this plant are native in countries such as the Philippines. The fibers are very durable yet pliable and come in a variety of colors and designs.

Seagrass - Seagrass fibers are attractive and come in a variety of raw, earth colors. These are usually combined with wicker and leather for a refined look.

Sabutan pandan plants - This fiber comes from a species of the pandan plant and can be woven in a variety of designs with various colors. It is said to be smoother compared to the regular pandan fiber.

Promoting these products may be challenging due to competition with other established brands and limited marketing budget. An effective alternative is the use of small printed materials which can be directly distributed. These materials include brochures, catalogs, calendars or even postcards. Online printing companies provide a fast, convenient and reliable way to print bulk orders at reasonable prices. Companies like UPrinting even offer discount coupons by maintaining an online discount coupon site.
