The Key To Understanding Broad Market Behavior

Internet Marketers who are looking to capitalize on a niche market will generally focus on one sub category of that particular market and run with it. While niche marketing is good, this does not mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to the broad market as a whole. Understanding what drives the market and what direction the trends are leading to will make it that more possible for you to succeed.

What Is The Big Picture?

Understanding the current status of your chosen markets means you have to first identify the current economic variables. There can be many factors that you should look for but I suggest focusing on:

How is business in your broad market?
What does the Federal Reserve Board think?
Is there a somewhat predictable cycle determining production and consumer spending?
What sectors are doing well?
What sectors are lagging?
You know that you want to be a niche marketer, everything on the Internet suggests that this is the best route to take. But how do you decide what niche to pick?

One thing that I did was research on what consumers were most interested in concerning my broad niche of Internet Marketing. A good resource that I found for this was www.score.org. Trolling forums and focus groups in your market area is also an invaluable tool, I especially like www.seomoz.org. Another thing you can do if you are lucky enough to have an opt-in list is to send out emails to your list and ask them what they wanted to learn more about. If you do not already have a list your main goal would be to build a general prospects list, perhaps several and ask them questions. Run more than one list at a time and compare the results. What do they have in common? This is where you should live. Building lists is a science unto itself and not covered in this article but you can find more information at http://www.bizwaremagic.com/opt-in.htm.

Once you get that data:

Size Up The Niche Market

Every day you before you do anything in regard to your business you should take a look at what the market is doing. Find out where the trends are pointing in the broad market as well as your niche of that market.

If you already have a list that we spoke about above; ask them what they want and need, and begin to fill those needs.

Go With What Is Working

Once you find out the most prevalent trends, go with the flow. It is easier to be a success if you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Unless you have a product or service that is genuinely unique do what others are doing that works and then work on doing it better. You can work out your uniqueness once the revenue is coming in. How to know what is working? Check out http://www.expansionplus.com/news/index.php for internet marketing news. Whatever the case, the main thing you want to remember is to refocus your efforts often if not on a daily basis. You must keep up to date and educated about your chosen market in order to just survive. It take much effort and serious work to become a winner.
