Natural Sources of Resveratrol

Submitted by delilarjpaulus

Resveratrol is the wonder supplement of the year, and unless you have been living in a cave for the past twelve months or so, you've likely heard lots of conflicting reports regarding this heart-healthy, waistline friendly nutritional mystery. There are some natural sources of Resveratrol that you can reap from your daily diet. In general, the highest concentration of Resveratrol in food can be found in the skins and seeds of the food - which is likely to be the reason that red wine is considered a source of Resveratrol, as are peanuts, grapes and some berries. Of important, note, however - to consume the recommended daily allowance of Resveratrol by drinking red wine, you would need to take in more than a liter of the beverage each day - and the detrimental effects of the alcohol in the red wine would negate any gains you might receive in doing so - not to mention the damage that you would inflict on your liver and kidneys by consuming that much alcohol every day! Amounts of Resveratrol in Foods When you consider the amount of Resveratrol that is found in supplements that can be easily taken without adding any additional calories to the diet, you can see why most people who are on the Resveratrol "band wagon" choose to take the supplements instead of getting the ingredient from their diets. Most Resveratrol supplements contain a minimum of 20 mg of Resveratrol; you would have to eat 16 cups of red grapes (1.25 mg of Resveratrol per cup) to gain the same benefit of one supplement. Or you could have 133 cups of peanut butter, 80 cups of peanuts, or 15 cups of boiled peanuts! So even those most beneficial sources of Resveratrol can't compare to supplements - and no one could possibly consume foods in these proportions; it's a comical suggestion at best. What Resveratrol Can Do For You Resveratrol has been studied for decades, although it wasn't until the last few years that the findings of multiple scientific trials have come to light. Resveratrol can have the following benefits for users:
greater energy and endurance increased mental clarity enhanced sleep quality lower cholesterol levels decrease in the signs of aging possibilities to ward off cancer
Choosing Your Resveratrol Supplement When choosing the Resveratrol supplement that you will use to obtain better health, choose one that only contains natural ingredients with at least 20 mg of Resveratrol on the label. Choose supplements of Resveratrol that have been manufactured by a reputable company. To check a supplement manufacturer's reputation, visit the website of the Better Business Bureau; if any complaints have been lodged against the company, they will be noted on the site. Precautions Regarding Resveratrol It is important that you check with your doctor before beginning any regimen that includes Resveratrol. Resveratrol can act as a blood-thinning agent, so it is doubly important that those users who are on blood-thinning medication avoid taking this supplement. In fact, if you are taking any prescription medications, check with your doctor before using Resveratrol. Natural sources of Resveratrol are not contraindicated for anyone, however, because foods containing Resveratrol have such a low concentration of the Resveratrol molecule that no harm can be done consuming them.
