Protect Yourself from Being the Victim of Card Scam Part 3Submitted by bazluhrmann Sat, 3 Oct 2009
6. Be careful in stores too
Although you are more vulnerable to a scam on the internet or over the phone, were you aren't physically present, you still have to be very careful when using your card in shops. With chip and pin now used almost everywhere fraudsters will try various tactics to try and obtain your pin number. When withdrawing cash at an ATM always use your spare hand to cover the keypad, stopping those nearby from seeing you enter your pin or possibly CCTV cameras in the area. Before using a cash point check the card slot to make sure there are not extra devices looking to rip off the details off your card. 7. Always be on your guard Now that you have learnt about how to protect your card it is also important that you make sure that despite your best efforts someone definitely hasn't been able to steal from you. Take time to go over your debit and credit card statements to make sure that you haven't become a fraud victim. Using internet servicing is a great way to check transactions sooner rather than waiting for paper statements and minimising any loss from fraud schemes. Often fraudulent card transactions are small as criminals test a card and look to bypass automated fraud checking systems. Also they are more likely to go unnoticed so do check every transaction and query everything you are unsure about. Keep statements in a secure place until you are sure they aren't of use any longer. 8. Cold callers will try to scam you Like via e-mail the bank will never ask you for passwords of pin numbers when calling you so if they are tell the caller you will call the bank back to ensure the call is legitimate. If it isn't a scam there will be no problem and the small inconvenience of having to call back avoids the chance of being the victim of a fraud scheme. Protect your business and avoid being a victim of fraud by attending the next marcus evans scam conference. 9. Insure yourself The rise in Identity theft, fraud and similar scams has brought about the emergence of a identity theft insurance. There are ifs and buts about identity theft insurance as the banks have been refunding money lost due to scams however they have other benefits such as covering legal fees and restoring your credit rating. 10. If you become a fraud victim Contact your bank and/or credit card company immediately to cancel your card. There will be an emergency direct number to the fraud team to deal with your case. It is important to report card fraud and misuse immediately as if the bank find out you didn't or gave out your PIN number then they won't refund your money back. Don't leave yourself open to fraud.
