A process plant is meant for creating an industrial environment to manufacture various products. These products can include chemicals, engineering, automotive and many more. Let's take an example of chemical process plant. A chemical process plant is used to manufacture various chemicals. In some of these plants, chemicals are being used to create new materials. Different complex chemical processes are required to be carried out to produce different products & chemicals. Each chemical process includes several steps known as unit operations. A particular unit operation is usually carried out in a separate area, or unit, of the chemical process plant. Particular process plant equipment is used for a particular unit operation.

These process plant equipments are responsible for various tasks associated with an industrial process. The different units are interconnected with one another in a way that allows materials to be transported to the next unit when a particular unit operation is complete.

In a manufacturing plant, there can be different units designed to carry out various operations such as feeding raw materials to the machine, operating on raw materials, and finalizing the output. In a chemical process plant, the first unit operation includes input of raw materials, known as feedstock. A feedstock refers to the input of raw materials into a certain unit. The output comes out of a certain unit operation is known as matter that has undergone the entire process and ready to come out of the plant.
