Yesterday I changed my life... forever.

Last night a good friend of mine shared with me that his life changed yesterday... forever.
He works in sales. Door to door sales. He tells me that about a week ago on his way out to his daily labor he found himself talking with his companions about the challenges that he experiences on the doors, how hard it is, how illogical some people can be, how some days he sells and other's he doesn't, etc., etc. Then someone said to him, "So, what you can do is just focus on what you want." When he heard that it was like a bolt of lightning entering his mind and he knew that if he wanted to get different results he needed to change his thought habits. He became aware that he was in a habit or a pattern of thinking negative thoughts about his sales and about how his day was going to go and was getting exactly what he thought about every day. His pattern has been to make a sale one day, then not make a sale for a day or two, then another sale, then miss another day or two.

Immediately he made the choice to begin spending his time thinking and talking about the results he wants. He wrote down his goal "I make a sale every day" and every morning he reads it back to himself. He wrote it with soap on his bathroom mirror! Yesterday marked a week of doing this. He told me that on his way out to his assigned area the old habit tried to creep back up with the negative thoughts again. The thought came into his mind, "I'm gonna miss today." But, because he's been consciously re-programming his subconscious mind to dwell on what he wants he immediately recognized what was happening and the new vision of the sale he desires came back on to the screen of his mind and he shifted he focus. Instantly he felt energy and inspiration come back into his body. He did not miss. He sold yesterday. He sold because he exercised his newly found understanding that he could choose his results by virtue of choosing what he focuses on. He now knows that he can choose and he knows that his life will never be the same. It was the most exciting thing to hear him on the phone last night. It was inspiring.

Back in 1940, Albert E. N. Gray of the Prudential Insurance Company of America gave a speech entitled "The Common Denominator of Success" in which he asserted that, "The common denominator of success -- the secret of success of every man (or woman) who has ever been successful -- lies in the fact that he formed the habit of doing things that failures don't like to do." It's valuable to note that it's not that the successful people necessarily liked doing those things any more than the unsuccessful people it's just that they turned those things into habits which is what made the difference. He further went on to say, "If you do not deliberately form good habits, then unconsciously you will form bad ones." Which is exactly what my friend experienced yesterday... namely, the ability to choose his way, to deliberately intend, to consciously create... whatever you want to call it. He got clear on what he wanted, spent no time on what he didn't want, and claimed "response-ability" for his results in life, for his future. I'm willing to bet he'll continue to win. - Brian M.
