Hasn’t the American dream always been to own your own business? California is a state of many regions and different spheres of economic activity for you to carry out that dream. First, there is Hollywood, in L.A. and the huge entertainment industry. Businesses involved go from multi-billion dollar film studios to small agencies that promote different actors and wanna-be actors. Hollywood has branched out to Burbank, and other towns in the Los Angeles area. Though many movies are still made in California, the key producer money-wise is the television show production industry. There is a tremendous amount of support work to be done in printing movie and television scripts, including composition, typing and proofreading of them. Even things like the constantly changing stage sets can easily become a life-long occupation. A small company with one owner and 3 to 5 employees may find it necessary to incorporate, for financial as well as legal protection and limited liability reasons. That’s just a few ideas for your California Incorporation.

Silicon Valley has become a catch phrase for hi-tech development and innovation, and the so-called capital of Silicon Valley is San Jose. From a sleepy little town on the south end of San Francisco Bay, San Jose has become a city of almost one million people. The local colleges San Jose State University and Stanford University have worked to develop students and grind out more and more bright computer science major graduates. And though you can network with these people from all across the world by email, or now by video cam calls, there’s nothing like working in San Jose in person, and being able to meet your favorite computer wonk for a chat.

California’s agricultural business is still the state’s largest business. The center of agricultural production is the Central Valley, while other regions have heavy concentration in specialized fields of agricultural production such as the Northern California Wine Country and other areas like Santa Barbara. The Northern half of the valley is known as the Sacramento Valley and the southern half is known as the San Joaquin Valley. Key agricultural products include all sorts of fruits and nuts such as grapes, tomatoes, apricots and almonds. Extensive food processing businesses are in California as well. For example, in the wine business, there are Gallo, and other well known brands in the Napa Valley.

The ports of California are the gateway to the Pacific and the Pacific Rim countries, from Russia and Japan to Australia and New Zealand. The Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach together is the largest port in the nation, and in northern California, Oakland is also a large container port.

If you are ready to incorporate your business in California, be prepared to file some forms and pay some forms to the state, and any agency you hire to assist you. Also, you should be aware that basic information on California Corporations is available on the secretary of state website for the viewing of the public. Listed information includes the name and California address of the business and the name and address of the California Agent for Server of Process. That is the person who receives any legal documents directed at the corporation. Also, there is a minimum franchise tax for corporations in California of $800 a year.
