After you learn to use a printer with your computer, you might be tempted to print almost anything you need done yourself. Printing up your own stuff can be enjoyable especially for things like greeting cards or business cards. These are useful items that you can design to your own specifications. There are so many different programs you can buy and install on your computer that will allow you to do all these various printing jobs.

While printing small jobs at home are enjoyable and can be done fairly inexpensively, if you have a larger project to accomplish, especially one that will use colored ink, you might wish to consider having it done professionally. Ink cartridges for home computers can get a little expensive when you print all the time. It might not be very economical if you are going to print 500 colored flyers for a yard sale or some other thing you might wish to advertise that way.

Having large printing jobs done professionally may not be that cheap either, but you will have to compare what they will charge you for a particular job against what the paper and ink will cost to do it yourself. If the job is comparatively priced either way, you might as well go ahead and have the professional printer do it for you because it will save you the time and trouble. You will still be able to submit your own specifications for the printing project, but you might end up getting a better result in the long run.

As fun and easy as printing at home can be after you get the hang of it, you can still usually get a more professional printing job by having it done. There are things like wedding invitations that you might want to have a fancier look on special kinds of paper that you may not be able to achieve on a home printer. If you want your business cards to be done in a fancier finish, professional printing might work better for you too, especially if you go through a lot of business cards.

Something that some people might not know about the printing cartridges they buy for a home printer is that many of them can be refilled. It is sometimes a tedious process, but it will save you a little money if you want to go to the trouble. Just keep in mind that it is better to only refill a cartridge once or twice at the most. Sometimes the cartridge will not function properly if you try and refill it more than a couple of times.
