If a significant portion of your business is done on the web or through your website, then the best way of advertising and marketing is by submitting it to a search engine. No amount of press releases, newspaper or radio advertd, banner ads, spam emails or newsletters will achieve the same results. Although all of them may be effective in a small way.

Take care with companies that offer automatic submission of your website to hundreds of search engines. These are usually just false promises. The best and most reliable way to submit your website for search engine ranking and inclusion, is to do it yourself. You could also hire an expert to do it manually, by contacting the search engine companies and directories.

Make sure before you begin to submit your website to search engines, that your websites are thoroughly designed to professional standard. They need good graphics and pictures and the relevant content as well as using the right key words, don’t submit incomplete websites. When submitting to search engines, make sure you provide keywords and any other information that may be relevant, including the name and contact information for your business.

Because there are thousands of new websites being published every day, submission to search engine companies won't guarantee your site being listed immediately or that the ranking will be high. It may take sometime before your site is reviewed by the editors. An important factor to remember when submitting your site is to include a site map, which makes crawling easier for the web robots. Some search engines such as Google hardly consider submissions without sitemaps.
