The State of New Jersey has a population of about 8.5 million in a fairly small area, making it the most densely populated states in the nation. In the northern part, it borders New York across New York Bay, and shares with New York the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Knowing the amount of infrastructure in this area can be helpful when you are planning your New Jersey Incorporation.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates many of the busiest and most important transportation links, including the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rapid-transit system; the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy International, and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. The agency also owns the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. New Jersey, on its southwestern side borders Philadelphia, across the Delaware River. So a great deal of New Jersey’s population and industries borders New York and Philadelphia. Also, since 1978, Atlantic City has been one of the largest centers of casino gambling in the United States. The Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal was the world's first container port and is one of the world's largest container ports. Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the three New York City metropolitan area airports. The state’s largest city is Newark, with a population of 275,000, which is part of the New York City metropolitan area, and also part of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Newark is a large center of insurance business, including the headquarters of Prudential Insurance and Mutual Benefit Insurance. There is also an Anheuser-Busch Brewery in the southern section of Newark, known as the Ironbound. Other large New Jersey cities include Jersey City, near Newark, and Camden, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. New Jersey is known as the Garden State and it still produces significant amount of agricultural goods, particularly for the local and New York City and Philadelphia markets. Products include nursery stock, horses, vegetables, fruits and nuts, seafood, and dairy products, cranberries, peach, and tomatoes. New Jersey's economy has a large base of heavy industry and chemical manufacturing. There are several oil refineries in the state, including the Bayway Refinery in Linden, and refineries in Westville and Paulsboro. New Jersey also is home to major pharmaceutical firms Merck, Wyeth, Johnson and Johnson, Novartis, Pfizer, Hoffman-LaRoche, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Schering-Plough. NJ Transit also operates three light rail systems in the state, in Hudson County, in Newark and from Trenton and Camden in Southwest New Jersey. The PATH links North Jersey and New York City. The PATH operates four lines that connect various points of North Jersey and New York. Stadiums and a sports complex are located in the Meadowlands, in Secaucus and there is the Meadowlands Racetrack, one of three major horse racing tracks in the state. The Meadowlands Racetrack along with Freehold Raceway in Freehold is two of the major harness racing tracks in North America. Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport is also a popular spot for thoroughbred racing in New Jersey and the northeast. About the Author
