The Energy of ChangeSubmitted by workingmom Tue, 26 May 2009
Have you ever taken a class, heard a speaker or read a book that introduced a new idea or concept and motivated you so much that you couldn't wait to try it out and do things differently? You have found the answer you have been searching for - it is the solution to all of your problems. You jump into the new perspective with great excitement and begin implementing new ideas and actions. You invest your time, energy and money in to expanding your knowledge and learning everything you can about the subject. Your enthusiasm is apparent to everyone around you as you talk openly and often about the ideas, the changes and your new way of being. Fast forward 3 months and you find that you are back to your old ways of doing things. The knowledge is still there but your thinking and behaviors have reverted back to your "pre-epiphany" days.
Most everyone who is interested in growth and progress has experienced this at least once - usually many, many times. Why is that? You were genuinely moved by your experience and the new perspective. You were probably even getting great results and things were changing for the better. Then why switch back? The reality is that change is uncomfortable, challenging and requires sustained effort. It is easier to go back to our comfort zone. It is easy to make changes at first because we are riding on the energy of the person who presented the new information to us. Passion and excitement is contagious. When we are around someone who strongly believes what they are teaching and delivers it with tremendous passion and conviction, our energy entrains with their energy. Our consciousness expands and our energy increases to match their vibration. We leave their presence in an expanded and motivated place. Once we are back in our normal environment, it is harder to maintain the changes because our energy entrains to our surroundings. We are back with the same people, the same interactions and the same tasks that contributed to us being stuck and unhappy in the first place. In order to maintain change and continue to adapt and grow, it is important to find people who are thinking, behaving and living the changes you are growing towards. Regular interaction with them will allow our energy to increase to match theirs. Each time it expands upward, it is less likely to move as far back to our default mode. It's like exercise for our energy - the more we do it, the easier it is to maintain the increased vibration and way of being. There is an old saying: "It hard to soar with the eagles when you are surrounded by a bunch of turkeys." Doing what you have always done will get you what you have always gotten. Are you willing to find some eagles with which you can fly?
