In accordance to the federal laws, public records are considered documents that are recorded documents kept in a particular government office for archiving. These documents that are kept in government offices are for free view to any people who wants some copy of them. With the government’s custody, you have to follow certain rules in processing the request of these records. In order to that, you usually have to fill out forms and have a proper identification in order for your request to be approved.

Public records are considered to be one of the most useful documents because they can be used in different ways especially for personal investigations. People have the freedom to access these records since the law prescribed that public records must be for the use of the people for certain government transactions and also for investigations. These records are also used by genealogists and family historians in their archiving work.

There are many ways on how you can acquire these records but there are three most popular sources where you can surely get the public documents that you want.

· You can personally visit the government offices in your area and see if the records that you need are there. For example, if you want to have someone's birth records then you can get it in the government office where that person was born. You have to make sure on where you can get the document that you want because not all documents are located in one government office. For example, if you are looking for the criminal records of a person who lived in Jackson County and Orange County, you can check out the records first in any of the counties and then check out the next. This is simply because the records in one county is not the same as another. They both keep different sets of records which are pertaining only to their area of jurisdiction.

· Another way may not require you to travel far or to spend much of gas. This is by hiring private investigators that will do all the work for you. They will do all the effort of finding the records for you and even give you the service of evaluating their search results. But since these people charge a high compensation, it can be impractical for people who have difficulties in affording this kind of option.

· So far, the best way to procure public records if you are looking for speed, convenience, and affordability is by clinging to online services.
