Top Five Reasons for Having ID CardsSubmitted by catherinew Thu, 20 Dec 2007
ID cards and ID badges of all types have become a necessity. In fact, most people have some sort of ID card at their job, their children probably have ID cards at their school, and most people have a variety of other ID cards in their wallets and purses such as membership cards or customer loyalty cards. Many people wonder if they are necessary, but the fact remains that we live in a fast-paced, sometimes dangerous world, and ID badges are one way to help protect people as they go about their daily lives.
The Top Five Reasons for Having ID Cards are: 1.Security. This is the number one reason why any institution has business ID cards. They want to protect their personnel and their place of business from people who are not supposed to be there. ID badges give everyone a sense of security, because if someone is not wearing an ID badge, it is immediately obvious, and that person can be dealt with quickly. ID badges prove your identity and that you should be in a particular building, office or area. 2.Health. While this may not seem like an important issue for some people, the fact is that many people have medical issues such as drug allergies, being diabetic, having a pacemaker or being deaf, etc. Health personnel know that all of these issues can come into play if they are called to a scene with an unconscious victim. Some people wear medical alert bracelets for these health issues, but having some type of ID card with this information on it can be helpful, as well. The idea of putting your medical history on an ID card is going to become a reality in the next few years, so health ID cards make a lot of sense. 3.Benefits. For many students at various universities, ID badges give them access to a wide array of benefits. For instance, when they produce their ID badge, they get a discount at the campus bookstore; they can access the computers at the library, or even gain access to their science laboratory. The idea behind offering ID cards with benefits is that it makes it much more likely that people will carry their ID cards with them. Offering incentives is an excellent way to get people to carry their ID cards consistently. 4.Access. Many businesses have sensitive information or areas that should not be available to all personnel and especially visitors. With increasing corporate fraud and worries about terrorism and crime, limiting access to certain areas or information makes sense. The simplest way to do this is with ID cards that have encoding on the back that limits access to certain people only. 5.Identity. ID badges provide another important service, which is to identify who is an employee of a business. This makes life so much easier for customers to know who they need to talk to when entering a business instead of having to speak to a variety of people to find the employee that you want. It is also an effective customer service technique in that it offers the employee's name so that customers will know who they are speaking with. About the Author
