What goes into a CBD Building refurbishment?

Submitted by diggy
Mon, 9 Jun 2008

Have you ever wondered what goes into CBD office refurbishments? John Dawson Electrical is one of the few local companies that can tell you after taking part in the refurbishment for the prestigious Northbank Plaza in the CBD.
Northbank Plaza is a 22 storey building in the Brisbane CBD that had seen better days. It needed a total make-over including the all important power, lighting, communications, AV and security services. All services needed to be upgraded to assist Northbank Plaza achieve a 4 star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating.

John Dawson Electrical, specialists in Electrical Contracting in Brisbane won the tender to replace all existing core lighting and power services to Northbank Plaza. They also upgraded or replaced all existing office level distribution switchboards and replaced all the electrical and office light fittings. The security system was also totally overhauled to provide safety for the building.
There were kilometres of cables and truckloads of parts that went into the electrical refurbishment of Northbank Plaza. All of these cables feed into the dedicated substation for Northbank Plaza with its three transformers as well as double standby generators to make sure everything continues to run smoothly no matter the situation.

“Every job has its challenges and this one was no exception. Soon after we started on the contract the building had full occupancy, so we had to work around the tenants to ensure minimal disruption to their work. John Dawson Electrical team members work nights and weekends if needed to get the job done with the least amount of impact on the clients. We are proud of the great job that our guys did at Northbank Plaza” said John Dawson.

John Dawson started John Dawson Electrical in 1986. John Dawson Electrical provides electrical contracting to Brisbane residential, commercial and building consumers. John Dawson Electrical does everything from single power points for domestic consumers to refurbishments or new constructions for major developments.
