Making sure you check your cars fluids regularly ensures that your car is functioning to the best of its ability, and it also detects any leaks that you may have with your fluids. If you check the condition and quantity of your cars vital fluids frequently than your car will last a lot longer and you'll have less expensive problems to repair. Some vital fluids that should be checked and changed regularly are your motor oil, your automatic transmission fluid, your coolant, your steering fluid, and your brake fluid. All of these fluids are vital for the operation of your car.

Your motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles, and be checked in between changing to make sure you don't have any leaks. If your motor oil gets very low you can have some very costly damages, so it's best to keep up on the maintenance of this vital fluid. Your automatic transmission fluid is another very important fluid to check because if it is low, or over filled, you can have shifting problems and it can cause a premature transmission failure, which is also costly. This fluid should not be brown or have a burnt smell. If it does, make sure you change your automatic transmission fluid to avoid problems.

Your coolant is another very important fluid to the operation of your car. If you have low coolant than your engine can overheat. Its best if this mixture is fifty percent water and fifty percent antifreeze. This is the best mixture for cooling your car. Your coolant should also be checked for quality and it's recommended that you change it every couple of years to avoid problems. Your steering fluid should be checked regularly for leaks. This fluid does not need to be changed, only refilled if it is low because of a leak.

The brake fluid in your car is very vital to the operation of your car and your safety. You should check this fluid regularly to make sure you don't have any leaks. It's recommended you change your brake fluid every couple of years and every time you change your brakes as it can pick up moisture over time that causes dysfunction. Although your windshield washer fluid is not a vital fluid in your car, it's worth refilling because you never know when you'll get a bug splat or something else that inhibits your visibility while driving. It's best to buy a windshield washer fluid with de-icer to melt the ice and increase your visibility and safety.
