How Football First Began

Submitted by chloeramsbottom

Football is unquestionably the most admired hobby in the world, bringing in millions of fans, rich individuals and organisations, and of course large quantities of money. The present football game first originated in the green and pleasant land of England around the year 1863 but it is known that many countries and different types of cultures played a game that was much alike that of football that date back to the ancient Egyptians and Romans. For instance the Romans played a game akin to football that had 27 players each side and often ended with small and horrendous injuries as the game was very violent.

The first written recording of football was found in a Chinese military guide that dates back to 300BC and was called cuju, in this game players kicked a pig skinned made ball between a hole that was cut into a segment of silk that was stretched between two poles. This was a basic sport and they didn’t have the equipment and conveniences as we do in modern times but back then this would have been a fun past-time.

In the medieval times there were also records of football, however during these gloomy times of war and bloodshed football matches more often than not ended up in fights and brawls with children getting wounded seriously because there were no regulations set out.

Moving to present times the game has transformed completely, with the addition of laws, a referee and organising bodies behind the game, football has become a professional sport. With TV cameras, and dedicated groups of fans packing out stadiums, there isn’t a lot of things that can go unnoticed so there is no room for cheating, or foul play. Those that do get pulled up on it by either a suspension or a fine.
