Nintendo Wii Game System: Make Sure You're Choosing The Right One For Your Needs

Submitted by wendyhearn

The fact that Nintendo Wii games systems are still as hard to find in the shops as it was one year ago is proof that it is truly a revolutionary games console. As the PlayStation 3 and the XBox opted for more memory and better graphics, Nintendo went in an entirely different direction.

What makes the Nintendo Wii so unique is the motion sensitive controller that you can swing, point, poke and slash to get different effects in-game. So, for example, if you are playing a tennis game you swing the controller like a racquet to hit the ball.

The basic Wii package contains everything you need to get started. You get your console, a controller, cables and the Wii Sports games package. And at $249 for the lot it is a steal compared to the far more expensive PS3 or XBox.

However, retail price Wii's are hard to come by these days so you will be lucky if you can get one at this price. Also, while the basic package is enough to get you started with the Wii, you really have to invest a little more to get the most out of this console.

At the very least you will want to get a second controller for two-player games. This will set cost you around $40. You will also probably want to invest in a couple of Nunchuk controllers which are needed to get the most out of many games. A battery recharger is also a good idea.

Depending on your tastes and how often you use your Wii, you will probably want to invest in at least an extra game or two. On top of this, there are all kinds of other accessories that you may or may not want.

There are all kinds of Nintendo Wii packages available. Some, aimed at really dedicated gamers, include over 20 games and all kinds of accessories, but could set you back almost $1,000.

The secret is knowing what you want before you buy. Read up on what's available, keep your own gaming habits in mind, and try to give the Wii a couple of test runs before deciding on the right package for you.
