It was pretty exciting in the gaming world When Playstation 2 was released back in 2000. At that time Sony followed up the original playstation console which we all knew and loved with PlayStation 2 which, of course, had added features and brought gaming into a new competitive level.

The advertising for PS2 was effective making all types of people from all walks of life desire the product. The advertisers did a great job of hyping the product pre-lauch. By launch date everyone was in a frenzy to get the new PS2. It was the one time that I can remember, that both kids and grown ups alike asked Santa for the same christmas present. Everyone wanted to see a PS2 under the tree at Christmas.
When Playstation 2 was introduced it was not only the technology that had improved its capabilities, it was also the quality of all the playstation 2 games. Gaming graphics had advanced from the ordinary to a rich world of fantasy and graphic reality that were previously unimagineable and unobtainable at that price.
The improved games brought with it came skilled players. Previously, what had been considered an indoor sport now grew to a fully fledged gaming community containing groups and clubs developed solely to play games competitively and devoted to their game of choice. The increased accessability to internet facilities also allowed these groups to communicate and compete with each other all over the world. Gaming became truly global and continues to be so.
