Putting Media On Your PSP

The main problem most people have is that the vast majority of Sony PSP sold are sold in the value pack, which means it comes with a memory stick duo. Great huh. Well, no not really. The problem is, the stick that comes with the value pack is only 32mb, and as anyone under the age of about 15 will tell you, 32mb doesn’t get you anywhere these days. You need more. Much more! If I were starting out with a PSP today I wouldn’t consider a stick with anything less than at a least 1GB on it, preferably 2.

Another stumbling block for a lot of people is the lack of USB cable with the system. I really don’t think it would have hurt Sony to include one. A lot of people seem to think that they can just perform some kind of wireless data transfer straight out of the box, which of course they can’t. Still, USB cables are ten a penny these days, and I’m betting you could get the right one for the right price from Ebay or somewhere like that.

If you do have everything you need, all you need to do is connect the PSP to the Computer using the USB, and only at that point should you switch both systems on. Once they have started up, go to the PSP and hit “USB Connection” (it’s in the settings menu). Your computer should then recognize the PSP as some kind of removable hard drive or flash memory or something, and the PSP should now be visible from the My Computer menu.

From there, it’s really pretty simple. You’ll need to use the Windows interface on the computer to create any necessary file on the PSP-MUSIC for music, and PHOTO for photos, (oddly enough!) and you can do this pretty simply by clicking the mouse and hitting New Folder, just as you would create a new folder any other time. Once you have the folders created all you need to do is use the mouse to drag the media you want on the PSP into the relevant folders you created.

How simple is that?

PSPs can be a tricky little thing to get the hang of, and a lot of people have criticized Sony for not making things as straightforward and user friendly as they could be-hopefully though, this article has helped you get on the right track!
