Rolando is a combination of puzzles and platforming gaming. Your goal in this game is to solve the puzzle even as you work to herd the Rolandos, their prince and their king to safe shelter.

Rolando has been marketed as a physics game. This has scared off many who hated physics and all that it implied. However, the game's physics quotient is no different than other games on the iPhone. This game is similar to a platforming game where you use to multi talented players to navigate your way through the map. This involves using teleporters, activating switches or even blowing things up to move forward.

To be good at this game, you will have to master the environment and also the various ghosts and spooks that populate the various levels. You can either avoid them or destroy them before moving ahead. Thankfully, the enemies do not move fast. This helps you plan your game methodically. The levels can be crossed quickly. However, this does not mean they can be crossed easily. Handling the Rolandos is not very difficult. However, the prince tends to run off without thinking of the dangers involved. This brings comic relief as well a fair share of frustration into the game.

Rolando is a complex game, each level requiring numerous tasks to be completed and puzzles to solve before all the Rolandos can reach the end. Each level must be completed with a certain number of Rolandos reaching the end to claim victory, and while this target is generally rather generous, there's definite incentive to play through the game a second time and try to minimize Rolando casualties. There are also gems scattered throughout the levels, as well as a time limit to beat which rewards achievements, but these should be saved for a second playthrough.

Rolando can be played by touchñscreen mode as well as by tilting your iPhone. The player can either touch the screen to select a single Rolando soldier to get him to move. You can select multiple soldiers by dragging your finger over them all. One can make the soldiers jump ledges by flicking the finger up and get them to roll around by tilting the iPhone. Remember, the prince is a bit of a hazard and has to be handled with care. It takes skill to protect the prince. Further, the giant King can be moved only with help of numerous Rolandos.

At first look, the graphics of the game appears to be ordinary and monochromatic. The arty side of the game could use some more work. It is not as bad to be called terrible. However, the minimalist approach will not appeal to many gamers. Thankfully, some levels are much better than others. What hurts is that it seems as if the developers were not interested in putting in any more effort into the gameís graphics. All the levels have been designed to reflect the surreal look. However, the look has been overdone and presents an overall drab effect. The Rolandos are the saving grace as they have been made attractive with multiple colors. They are well animated as well.

The difficulty levels of Rolando increase gradually in good sync with the game. As the game progresses, it becomes tougher. As you play the game for longer durations, you too are better equipped to handle tougher challenges. Hence, the adjustment of the difficulty level has been done well. There are many easy puzzles before the levels become really difficult. Unlocking all features and solving all puzzles will require many replays. This ensures the game is good enough to last for a few months.

Game Score: 9/10
