Why you shouldn’t purchase the latest game – you should rent it

Submitted by Sarah Maple

After spending some time checking out all the high street retailers close by and finding that they don't actually rent games I was in dismay, how far would I have to go just to play the latest games to figure out whether they are worth buying? It turned out 46 miles was how far, this was not good.

After spending a little time online and reading a lot of game rental reviews I pointed my browser at www.swapgame.com, they appeared to be noted highly among the gaming community and they had a nice manageable website that wasn't full of flashy videos and all that nonsense. I knew what I wanted hence the reason for being there. After spending a short time signing up I found myself on a free trial and having my first game ‘GT5 Prologue’ being sent to me. I had 10 days to decide if this was worth it.

Two Days later ‘GT5 Prologue’ turns up on my doormat so I casually walk to the PS3, pick up a controller, put the game in, push the cat off the sofa and start a day of full-on racing. Later that day I decided that I would try another game so I logged onto the site, clicked in the right places and before I knew it ‘Dark Sector’ was on the way to me! I sent ‘GT5 Prologue’ back two days later and shortly after arriving home ‘Dark Sector’ turned up! Like before the cat got removed, the PS3 went hell for leather and all was good.

Overall I think that the online game rental service that Swapgame had provided was exactly what I expected, exactly what the reviews said and exactly as the website described it. There are always mistakes but these are blown out of proportion on the internet because that is the nature of the web. Ultimately if I want to buy the game I can purchase it from Swapgame at a reduced pre-played price or I can just send it back for free to swap for another title.
