Wow Characters And Wow Accounts - Ensure You Are SecureSubmitted by gametag Sat, 11 Jul 2009
The one thing within World of Warcraft which you should guard with more fervour than the Sword of a Thousand Truths is your username and password. Unfortunately people do steal stuff via a WOW accounts or a WOW character and this is the reason you must place maximum emphasis on your account security. All your armour, gold, loot and money in the game is of no use if it is compromised. Keeping yourself safe should be the number one goal and to aid you in this process, WOW account internet resellers have compiled a list of practices you should be following to stay safe. Of course this is not an all inclusive list, but if you follow it diligently, then you make the chances for other people trying to steal information negligible.
You need to think of the WOW account or WOW character security in a three step phase. Imagine your WOW account or WOW character to be a castle. You then have three lines of defence if you were attacked. Your first line of defence will be your username and password. Your second line of defence is an answer that you can provide to a secret question and an email address with a password (this password must not be the same as you're WOW account password). The third and final line of defence is the CD Key or any other information that will confirm that you are the account owner. If your first line of defence is compromised and your account is hacked, then they can take your loot and gold. If your second line of defence is compromised, then it is time to rely on your third line of defence which is Blizzard and the fact that you can prove and verify that you are in fact the account owner. Following a good security checklist will ensure that someone who is up to foul play cannot hack into your account. Things to bear in mind then are to have a secure username/password combination. Ensure that your username is unique and not similar to any of your email addresses or other in game names. Most people tend to make this mistake when selecting a username. If your WOW account or WOW character username is unknown to people, it makes it that much more difficult for them to guess your password. This can be quite tricky to do anyways but not knowing your username means they cannot even take a random guess. You also have the ability in the game client to use the "Remember my username" function and bypass some of the simple key loggers. Nothing protects your WOW account like a secure password. This is the ultimate defence and you should use it as such. Ensure you choose a good password, which is easy enough for you to key in but not something that anyone looking over your shoulder could pick up. These are a few but essential steps to be followed in ensuring that your WOW account and WOW character remain yours and are not stolen.
