Hard Drive Failure and Data Recovery

Submitted by adm@lost-data-recovery.com

Hard drive recovery is something most of us give little thought to until faced with disaster. Today, with information and data so very vital in business and our daily lives, hard drive recovery loss has probably touched us all at some point or another be it from a lost mailbox, a lost Powerpoint presentation or lost mp3 files.

Luckily, technology is at a point where it boasts that virtually no lost data is irrecoverable. But do keep in mind that with hard drives, disaster is only one bad sector away.
Hard drive failure and lost data

So whether your data was lost because of mechanical failure such as hard drive crash, or because of computer virus, accidental deletion or any other logic malfunction of the drive, there are routines and programs that could in all likelihood restore the data and the files hold in that hard drive.
First step - turn of the equipment

Should a computer hard drive failure be caused by a logic crash the prospect for both hard drive repair and data recovery are much better than in the case of a physical damage to the disk. If you determine a malfunctioning drive and in order to prevent further data destruction, immediately turn off your PC, laptop, or external hard drive and if possible make note of what happened when the failure took place.

When problems on a disc drive recovery take place, the best thing to do is to assure that no more data is written to the drive.
Logical disc errors

When a hard drive fails, normally the operating system files are damaged which is why software has to be used to finish the recovery.

Hard drive recovery software will work on computers that run Windows as well as Macs and drives with FAT32 formats. A Windows data recovery software can also be used to recover deleted files and folders. There is specialized software for data restoration for any operating system, from Windows 95, 98, XP to Apple Macintosh, Linux, or Novell.

The actual process of finding corrupted files on a hard drive and reconstructing is normally pretty simple. Quality hard drive data recovery programs are capable of reconstruction of corrupted data. Windows Checkdisk, for example, is simple built-in application that can restore the corrupt files. Other hard drive recovery software can help restore files that were deleted, as long as they are not overwritten or badly corrupted, as well as repair bad sectors on your computer disc.

There are many hard drive recovery programs that will help you in getting files that have been lost back on your computer.
Physically damaged hard disc drives

On the other hand, if you have experienced a physical hard drive failure and need hard drive restoration, then you may need the help of professional technicians. In the case of physical damage to your discs resulting from natural disasters like fire, hard drive data recovery software may not be enough to solve your situation of data loss. Hard drive recovery can work on all types and sizes of drives and with all operating systems.

Prevent future problems by doing regular backups

The only way to secure your data 100% is to make multiple backups of your hard drives, and the best way to avoid data loss is by keeping an complete, up-to-date backup. But let's face it, most computer users don't, but I urge you to start doing backups before its to late.
