Essential Features To Consider When Buying HP Laser Printer

HP laser printer is a machine suited for workplaces, businesses and even homes. It can dish out documents with professional appearance, and it can do so usually quicker and more cost-effective than an inkjet type of printer. If at present you're considering getting such unit, there are some important features you need to bear in mind.

It has to have the right connectivity interface based on your needs. Primarily, you have to point out how many computers will be using the unit. If it's going to be used by a dedicated computer, it needs to have a hi-speed USB port connectivity interface. However, if it's going to be shared by many different computers at a time, it needs to be network ready, meaning it needs to have an Ethernet port.

Wireless connectivity interfaces can be found in some models. Such feature is especially suitable if it has to be installed within a network while minimizing unnecessary clutter. Often used in large workplaces, some machines may be wireless-ready while others have built-in capabilities. A wireless-ready model is cheaper, but an optional dongle is bought separately.

If a fast-performing unit is a necessity, point your attention on features such as the pages per minute (ppm) and first page out. The ppm tells you how many printouts can be produced every minute. More often than not, a machine can dish out monochrome pages faster than color ones. On the other hand, the first page out simply refers to the time it takes for the machine to eject the page from the moment the data was sent to the printer.

Speaking of which, decide whether you want a monochrome one or a model which can dish out both monochrome and color prints. If what you require are documents with black-and-white text and grayscale images only, it's fine to invest in a usually more affordable monochrome machine. A color unit can whip up printouts in both monochrome and color.

Resolution refers to how many dots can be placed within an inch on the paper's surface. On the list of specifications, this is denoted by the figures next to the dots per inch (dpi). The higher the figures you see, the better the resolution. If you mostly need documents with plain texts, something that has a 600 x 600 dpi is good enough. But if you need to come up with quality graphics, go for something higher than that, like a 1200 x1200 dpi.

It's essential that the machine has a large internal memory, particularly if it's going to be used for handling complex and multiple tasks. Expressed in megabytes or MB, such is important because the document has to be sent to the machine prior to printing. It's a plus if the installed memory can be upgraded to a larger one, or if there's an expansion slot around.

HP laser printer may also come with other functionality aside from producing quality printouts. Called a multifunction printer or MFP, it's highly suited for use in busy workplaces or businesses with space constraints. Often an MFP is also capable of copying, scanning and sending or receiving fax. Going for such can be more economical than buying several different machines.
