Is An Apple Laptop the Best Option for You?Submitted by jbiberdorf Tue, 14 Sep 2010
Are you in the market for a new laptop computer? If so, you have likely noticed just how many options are out there. A visit to the local computer store will show you laptops for gaming, HD video watching, web browsing, and just about anything else you can think of. In addition to a dizzying array of components and features, there are also numerous brands and companies to choose from. Today, we will take a look at the Apple laptop family. Most popular for the MacBook line, Apple is definitely a major player in the laptop market.
There is a great deal of often heated debate when it comes to the Mac vs. PC argument. For many people, it is a matter of comfort. Most of us have been raised on PC based computers, and this means that the Windows operating system is the easiest for many of us to use straight out of the box. Recognizing this, however, it is now possible to install the latest version of Windows onto an Apple laptop. Likewise, most popular Windows software, such as Microsoft Office, is also available for Apple computers. Where the real differences come in is in the features and capabilities that each computer offers. Apple laptop computers are known for being excellent with graphic design and with intensive video rendering. This means that there are many users who would find that a Mac offers the most power for their needs. On the other hand, however, many games are not available for Apple computers. For a hardcore gamer, PC is usually the only option available. In other words, before you can choose a computer, you need to determine what its primary function will be. There are certainly some unique features that make the Apple laptop more popular. The multitouch keyboard is one of the most popular features inherent on these computers, and while companies such as Dell are now looking to integrate them, the simple fact is that the Apple version is head and shoulders above the rest. The touchpad on a MacBook offers a significant number of functions based on the number of fingers used and the direction of movement on the pad. Everything from swapping windows to zooming in on photos can be done with the touch of a few fingers. While not a main reason to buy a computer, this can certainly help when you are stuck between two choices. For many users, the main criterion when choosing between PC and Apple laptop computers is cost. A MacBook is going to cost only slightly more than a comparable PC, but the cost for an extended warranty will be much higher than on a PC. With that said, however, Apple has developed quite a reputation for customer service and quality repairs. Ultimately, the cost difference is small. If you are looking for a diverse laptop that can perform well and don't mind a slight learning curve as you adjust to a new operating system, Apple laptops are actually surprisingly great computers.
