Is your PC overheated?Submitted by Shalini Mon, 1 Dec 2008
Computer components can work efficiently only on a particular temperature because they are not designed to work above a certain temperature range. Heat is a ferocious enemy of a computer.
Earlier computers were designed to work in relatively low temperature but, personal computer these days are designed to work in comparatively little high temperature. More so, today's computers have built-in cooling fans that keep the computer from overheating during normal use. Many computers these days come with software programs that allow you to monitor the temperature of your computer. To make your computer a trouble free machine, you should keep the following points in mind:- Avoid overclocking: Overclocking takes place if a user seeks to run computer components at higher voltages or speeds than its tolerance. Overclocking can damage a computer system permanently. Suppose, a user boots a computer again and again, the computer components will overheat much faster than otherwise. In many modern computers, the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) typically accessible by pressing Del key or F2, when your computer boots up, it contains settings that allow to overclock the CPU, memory and graphics card. Clean the fan: Many computers are coming to the market these days have built in fans. These fans are designed to run when the temperature inside a computer gets too high. Hearing the fan turn off and on is not necessarily an indication of failure. In fact, fans are a computer's most important component. Without them, your computer's processor, memory, and other vital parts would overheat and eventually fail or cause your computer to slow down or to start behaving erratically. So, it is vey important to clean the fan with time. Desktop computers often have several fans: one or more on the back of the PC that vents to the outside, one inside the computer on the central processing unit (CPU), and one on the graphics card. Each of these fans should be dust free and functional. Switch off, when not using a computer: A wise decision is to switch off your computer system, when it is not in use. It will offer two benefits to you, first it will save electricity and secondly it will keep your computer well. The “Always On” phenomenon can damage your computer by over heating. Even some users observe color destruction to monitors, after a prolonged switch on. So, get into the habit of turning off your monitor when you step away from the computer for a prolonged time. Use of Utilities: Many computers these days have reached to the market which are preloaded with some utility programs that allow you to monitor the temperature of your computer. More so, these programs let you know the internal temperature of your computers and display warning signs when components of your PC get too hot. Replace or upgrade cooling components: Replacing a defected fan is considerably easy job as compared to repairing because repairing needs complete knowledge about the component and in absence of comprehensive knowledge, it can end smashing up other components. So, always go for installation of new fan and that too if you have some knowledged person with you to install new fan. Place your computer at right place: Never place your computer close to any heating device and try to place it near an air conditioning vent. A laptop can be placed anywhere but in general, try to keep them off your lap, which will make both you and your computer less comfortable. At the end, the feature can be summarized saying that the above mentioned safety rules will keep your computer safe and protected from external factors. For more infor visit the link:www.itvoir.com
