Laptop: Top Tips

The purchase of a brand new laptop computer is always pretty exciting. You look forward to being able to using it on the move such as on business trips, vacations and at the coffee shop down the street where you can probably use their Wi-Fi connection. But from the moment you first take it out of the box, your computer is open to the elements and can suffer from daily wear and tear.
This is inevitable but there are a few tips and tricks that you can use in order to get the best out of your laptop or notebook computer to make sure it lasts for many years to come.
Extend your battery life
One part of the computer that drains battery life very quickly is the screen. The light of the screen quickly reduces the battery life so turning the light down when it is not plugged into the mains will give you much more happy computing time.
Disabling unnecessary devices such as auto Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi network detection is also a good idea as the computer will always be searching for the next connection and this can eat up a lot of battery life.
Keeping your laptop cool
Once you've used your laptop for over an hour or so, the poor thing can get a bit hot and the fan can be working overdrive. To give your laptop a helping hand, it is always best to either put it on a flat surface (i.e. a table) or prop it up a little bit so the air can circulate underneath the laptop. Over heating can also occur in your home computer which means the fan may need to be cleaned.
Save your keyboard and screen
Even if you use your laptop computer out and about or just using it in the safe confines of your own home, your laptop is always under attack from its surrounding environment. Crisps, dust, drinks, sand, ink, grease, everything is out to ruin the look and running of your computer. One simple way of protecting both the keyboard and the screen of your laptop is to close the lid every time you're not using it. The longer it is left open, the more dust is attracted to the screen and the more accidents can happen to it. If you don't look after your computer then your new ‘bargain laptop' could turn out to be more expensive in maintenance costs.
