Middle East Internet Censorship

Submitted by jthompson884

In many countries, the idea of freedom to do whatever you want on the Internet is limited. Often by necessity, some countries choose to limit their citizens’ access to content that may be objectionable to some. In other countries, it’s a fact of life that government entities charged with protecting the people also seek to control their access to information. In these countries, news media outlets are often little more than government departments charged with feeding the people information that will lead them to believe a certain way. Middle East Internet censorship is one such example. In some Middle Eastern countries, Internet access is controlled and monitored by the government. In cases where free exchange of ideas and information is hindered, it can be valuable to have the ability to set up a VPN, which allows unrestricted access to the Internet. Using software to unblock Internet filtering is a great way to ensure that your family is getting accurate information.

That means that if a citizen chooses to view a site that the government finds immoral or otherwise objectionable, that person may be jailed or worse. To combat that, some companies are offering VPN or Virtual Private Network connections. These connections allow customers around the globe to isolate their browsing habits from prying eyes. A Virtual Private Network basically creates a tunnel through the Internet, through which your data passes secure from those who would seek to track what you’re doing. Using a VPN largely prevents your ISP or other entities from tracking your online movements, while providing you the peace of mind to know that countries who aren’t willing to unblock Internet filtering won’t be able to limit your access to information. In a country that chooses to unblock Internet filtering, there are still uses for a VPN. For one, sending your private financial data is more secure through a Virtual Private Network. If you are a business traveler, your client data can be securely transmitted through a Virtual Private Network more readily than by other means. Using a Virtual Private Network is the best way to ensure that your data remain secure against prying eyes and intrusion.

Another use of VPN technology is to make secure phone calls via Skype or other Voice Over Internet Protocol services. Connect your computer to the VPN, then use it as you normally would to make your calls. Even softphones that utilize Skype or other network connections can be compatible with VPN technology. Regardless of the reasoning behind the decision to use a VPN, it’s important to check prices for your region. Each region of the globe has different costs, because of the infrastructure required to create and maintain a truly secure Virtual Private Network.

The advantages of using a Virtual Private Network for business and personal reasons are nearly endless. For anyone who wants to browse the Internet anonymously, a Virtual Private Network is far more effective than a standard proxy. Virtual Private Networks provide users with a fast, secure connection for the transfer of data from one computer to another, without the worry of prying eyes.
