What is ERP system?

The ERP system is a software system for computer which organises the data by integrating it into a single system. Both hardware and software components are included in this system basically. This is because it results in good data integration. The data integrated is stored in a database which is highly unified for step by step organising function.

How did the term ERP origin?

In the year 1990 the firm of analysis and researches Gartner introduced this term. The term deals with the duration of usage of different organizational resources. But today the term can also be referred any variety of company. Presently they are developed in all core functions of charter and business organising, enterprising and low regarding. Recently business of non manufacturing and organisation of non profits also take good advantages of this system.

The package of software in consideration of ERP must at least constitute the working of more than one system. Hence they are also titled as packages of software of multifunction. Some examples of good ERP systems are: Warehouse Management (WM), Customer Relationship management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SRM) etc.

The key role is Integration.

Integration is the most important function of ERP. It refers to the integration of the data. It is done for the accessing to be easier and the work to flow rapidly. Many bigger organisations create these systems for the interfaces which are external. This will help it to be powerful and to fulfil all the needs of the organisations. This is an extreme time consuming process as the labour has to work for a long time.

They are mainly used in fields of:

Data Warehouse: Used as module for accessing various organisations.
Financial activities: They are used in account payments, general ledgers, managing cash etc.
Manufacturing: In functions of capacitance, controls of qualities flow of works etc.
Human Resources: In rolls of pay, profit making, processing of claims etc.
Projects: They are also used in different projects for timings, billings etc.

How can be Productivity improve with ERP?

Before introduction of this system, each company should have their own database and data in their computer systems. Communication is not guaranteed with every system. This makes the process more complicated.

Once this system was introduced it found solutions for these problems. This is because this system had no concerns on the compatibility of various computer systems. Hence the productivity will increase with reduced amount of software.

Some Very Important Advantages Of ERP Systems:

1. The first and main advantage is that it is a system of total integration.
2. The process of streamline difference and rapid floe of work takes place easily.
3. The data can be shared easily to any department of their respective organisations.
4. The rate of productivity and efficiency is highly improved.
5. The process of forecasting and trafficking takes place in a better and easy way.
6. The costs are at their best low rates.
7. The customer services of these systems are highly systematic with improved features.

This system also poses some low amount of disadvantages too.
