How to implement a successful SaaS Model

Submitted by christajoe

In simple words, SaaS can also be regarded as a subscription based service for an application delivered over an internet. There are lots of organizations that provide SaaS to the global market, but to implement SaaS model successfully there are many points that need to be followed.
• There is large amount of investment required to setup a SaaS Model as it can give big returns after its successful implementation.

• At the time of implementation, always keep in mind that target market should be big. If target market is not large enough you will not get positive return so always target a service that will be going to attract at least second and third tier market.

• To be successful in the market you need to come with strategic plan and a road map so that you can modify and develop services with time.

• Keep your market plan flexible and responsive to feedbacks made by market forces and users.

• It's not advisable to invest all your capital before launch as there will be many services that will require changes and development with time. So this is important to save 40% of the investment capital and 60% of development efforts before the launch so that it can be used in future.
In a custom application development process, SaaS technical architecture should be designed in a way that it can support changes and is expected to run over long term. To do this, you need to have a multi-tenant database structure. With the increase of number of clients in future there will also be increase in the services that are being provided to clients. In SaaS you are not just going to provide an application but will be providing presentation layer to the customers. We need to understand the technical strategies, by which we can scale our services, bring and merge new services, extend provided services outside the application and make changes in the services without any big hassle, so that you can continue to make profit.
The first release of the SaaS, one of the types of cloud computing platforms, shouldn't be the final release; the development process should go on with changing market. There are big names such as Google, SaleForce, Amazon and Fedex were providing SaaS, so to compete in the global market you need to keep evolving your services. Always keep an eye on the amount of time and operations carried out on the applications provided to clients so you can come to know about their needs. After the successful automation of the SaaS application and its working, you should also automate the pricing, settlement, on-boarding, user management and other operational aspects related to it. The major profit of SaaS comes from volumes and to handle those volumes manual operations can't be implemented. To handle the changes and development in SaaS from time to time ask your technical team to use agile methodologies.
