It's a sad fact that every computer will experience slow system performance as time passes by. No, I'm not talking about obsolescence; rather, I'm referring to the gradual slowing down of the computer. It's not caused by hardware parts failing but rather, due to certain software or system factors.

One common reason is that the files stored on the hard disk have become fragmented over time. As files are created and removed, empty spaces on the disk structure are created and files are strewn all over the disk. Imagine that to open one file, the system has to read bits and pieces of it from all over the hard disk. Now if this happens for most of the programs and data files stored on the computer, there is bound to be a significant increase in loading and file access times. You will need to run the Disk Defragmenter that comes with Windows. It will help you to reverse the fragmentation and speed up access times.

Another reason is that there may be a virus in the system taking up system resources. Be sure to get a good anti-virus program to scan your computer for computer viruses. Please note that before you scan, you should update the virus definition files for the anti-virus program so it can detect the latest viruses. If a virus is found, purge it from the system using the anti-virus software and then restart your computer.

But by far the most common reason for slow system performance is a Windows registry that isn't functioning optimally. The Windows registry is a system database that contains most application, system and user settings that is constantly used by Windows and other software. As time goes by, obsolete entries remain in the registry as it continues to grow. This results in slowness and even errors because of erroneous entries in the registry. The best way to resolve this is to use a registry cleaner software.

A registry cleaner will read the entire Windows registry to find errors and then fix them. This prevents future errors from occurring and also improves the system performance.

A good registry cleaner will help keep your Windows system in good shape and performing optimally. If you are unsure which registry cleaner to use, you can take a look at these reviews of registry cleaners. You can also read about how to fix Windows shutting down problems.
