Active Directory is a directory structure. It is basically used to store the information regarding the domains and various networks. Its major use is for storing the data related to the online information. After it was initially created in 1996, it was used in the windows 2000.

Active directory is of great help in storing the information regarding the objects. With active directory this data can be easily accessed by the data administrator as well as by the other users. Active directory is hierarchical in structure and then further can be classified into three parts. These includes the resources such are printers, then there are services for the internet users which includes the web servers and the last one are objects these include domain as well as network.

Computer administrator of the large organization can easily updates the end user computers. This can be done with the help of either software or patches and can be done manually also. As in this each object is a part of the large schema then the computer administrator can easily give the access to particular user regarding the use of particular applications or computer administrator can also restrict the use of the particular user.

These active directories are very easy and good method to arrange the large data of the organizations. If the active directories are absent then most of the end user computers have to be attended individually for granting or restricting the rights. This will also lead to the problem where the computers will not have the access to the network. These active directories require the technical expertise of an experienced person and need to be maintained properly. Nevertheless, in today's time these active directories are very much essential for the need of storing and accessing the data.
