What Shall I Look Out For When Looking For a Laptop?

Whether you're at school or just starting at University it is important that to find the right computer that will help with your studies. Laptop computers can be a major expense so choosing the right one first time will save you time and money in the long term. Here are a few tips that will help you understand what to look for when buying a laptop or notebook computer.

Portability - One of the first aspects of a computer that needs to be considered first is the size and weight of the laptop. Laptops come in a whole host of sizes from small 10inch screens to around 17inch so it depends on how much you need to transport your computer around. A smaller more portable laptop would be better suited for work as opposed to a larger laptop that is used as a portable all in one entertainment centre.

Stored Memory - If you're intending on producing large files, such as design, music and video files, then a large amount of storage is a must. This may mean spending an extra £50 on upgrading the hard drive, either when you purchase the laptop or further down the line.

RAM - RAM is short term memory, which means it is the amount of memory your computer can handle while it's on. A large amount of RAM is key for multi-tasking so if you have many projects to flick between then RAM may need to be taken into account.

Battery life - Having a battery in a laptop is one of the main benefits of a laptop as it allows you to be free and go wirelessly. This means that the battery is definitely something to pay attention to as you want to be safe in the knowledge that if you not close to the nearest power outlet for a long period of time that your battery is powerful enough to cope. This may mean spending extra on buying a bigger battery but its an investment that may be worth it.

Connectability - Wi-Fi connectivity is another factor to bear in mind as major benefit of laptop computers is the ability to jump from internet connection to another connection quickly and easily. You can of course purchase an external modem to use via the USB but built in Wi-Fi is always preferred.
