If you are an avid punter who bets on horses, you know there is a lot involved in the sport of horse racing. Some punters have very strategic systems and seem to have their betting down to a science. You don't have to memorise a bunch of statistics and records to be decent at horse betting. Here are a few tips, though, that when followed will up your performance as a punter and will help to put more money in your pocket.

One thing that most punters don't do is to look at the trainers. Every racehorse out there has a trainer that has made it the high-performance animal it has become. The fact of the matter is that some trainers are preferable to other trainers. How do you know if a horse has a great trainer? Look up the win ratios for each trainer and choose horses whose trainers have more wins than others. This will help you outperform the other punters and find some hidden gems that others will overlook.

Please remember this bit of advice if you forget everything else - you do not have to bet on every single race! In fact, please don't. The thing that distinguishes the professional punters from the amateurs is restraint and discipline. If you don't know enough about the horses in a race, hold off and wait for the next race. Betting off-the-cuff can be fun but will also leave you with an empty bank account in no time.

Even if you don't know it, you have a betting system. It may not be the best or most organised system, but you have a way you bet that you believe will win you money. You should use the tips like the one in this article to tweak your system, but the point is that once you have a system, stick to it. Betting randomly without a system is the worst thing you can do. Even systems that are highly flawed still represent an attempt at strategy, which is better than nothing. Developing a system and moulding it as you go is a great way to make your horse betting hobby profitable in the long-term.
