Bingo has long been a time honoured favourite game for many. Its format has proved adaptable to many different purposes and variation. Historically, the two main forms of bingo have been 75 ball bingo and 90 ball bingo. However, a new game of bingo is on the scene and attracting attention in both bingo halls and sites.

80 ball bingo was created to fill a void that some people felt was left by the 75 ball and 90 ball versions of the game. Many players felt that 90 balls were way too many for a bingo game. On the flip side, they felt that 75 balls were not enough. In an attempt to provide a happy medium, 80 ball bingo was created.

Many aspects of 80 ball bingo are unique. The bingo cards in this game are known as shutter boards. When a number is called, the player would mark that number on their card by simply closing the slides found on the shutter board. Once the slide is closed, the number is covered. The bingo tickets used in this game are comprised of both four columns and four rows, making a total of 16 bingo spaces. Each column is shaded with a different color. The first column on the bingo ticket would include numbers from one to 20. While the second column features numbers from 21 to 40, the third column with 41 to 59. The fourth and final column would contain numbers from 60 to 80.

Many bingo players have found that they enjoy the unique game offered to them from 8- ball bingo. In comparison to the 75 ball and 90 ball bingo games, 80 ball bingo moves at a much quicker pace. Many bingo players prefer this as they can play more games in one setting.

The game of 80 ball bingo also provides players with some fun bingo patterns. One of these is a full card, similar to what might be known as a coverall or blackout. Other bingo card patterns include filling horizontal and vertical lines, creating the letters X or S and filling double lines.
