South African interactive casino laws have caused a moral backlash after politicians have refused to confirm their stance on the gambling industry. The interactive casino laws generally mean the laws concerning all online casinos that are run from South Africa. The laws on such online casinos are not clear, however, and politicians are said to be confused over how the public see casinos, and whether they view them as morally wrong or not. There are now said to be legislative changes with regards to online casinos, but these changes come with the fear that the government will throw them out without giving them any proper consideration. Leading figures in the interactive casino industry have voiced the fear that politicians will stop any possible changes immediately.

Politicians are said to be reluctant to update the rules on interactive casino gaming, because they see it as morally wrong. The Department of Trade and Industry is close to finishing its talks on the proposals, and when this is completed they will be put before the country's law makers. The politicians' confusion seems difficult to understand, since polls have shown that the majority of South Africans are fine with the idea of interactive casinos. In fact, most of those asked were in support of the industry as a whole. The fact that the government were instrumental in legalising interactive casino gaming in the first place also creates confusion over why they are in a moral dilemma now. Since they legalised interactive casino gaming, it would not really suggest that they felt that there was a problem.

A meeting was held on the twelfth of August, in order to resolve the problems over the online casino gaming association that the South African government may have had. Nothing was resolved, however, and the debate therefore continues. It is as yet unknown whether the updates to the laws will be allowed to go forward, or whether they will immediately be thrown out by politicians.
