Everybody reads magazines and everybody has their own areas of interest. It’s only natural that we would want to save back issues of copies that we especially enjoyed.

For many years, magazines are collected by people all over the world. Most of them purchase them online for affordable or higher prices. What makes a magazine collectable? Ebay conducted a research and gave some clues about the elements that make magazines collectable. These elements include quality of the title and cover, rarity, cult status and titles devoted to favorite subjects, first and last issues, important cover subjects with a theme, age of a magazine which multiplies its value if it meets the above criteria also, specific writers or photographers and last but not least seller’s reputation.

Illustrators and designers collect magazines for inspiration and people for art and fun. People may also collect them to commemorate a birthday, an image or a past childhood event.

Old vintage magazines have always seemed to be an important reason for collectors. There is something about the dungy smell, the fragility of the paper, the crazy advertisements, the black and white, or tones of sepia. Valuable collections should be kept in safe temperature controlled areas, away from dampness. Magazines can also be framed as art.

A part from magazines, people use to collect only magazines covers. The covers of many famous magazines became prints, they are framed and they hang on the walls. Covers with favorite stars or favorite movie scenes, famous actors or fashion designers are available for sale and hundreds of collections may be seen all over the world.
