Betting on FootballSubmitted by David Salt Tue, 3 Nov 2009
Football is not only a popular sport across the globe but with it comes the ever popular sports bets. They types of wagers used in football betting are similar to sports such as rugby and cricket. These sports typically are fairly low scoring games. Therefore, they require a different type of sports wager. Typically, money line wagers are placed on these football matches. However, with football, money line wagers not only features bets on either opponent but you can also place a wager if you believe the match will result in a tie. Most sports do not give the option of a tie but with football it is a possibility.
When preparing to place your football wager, you must first read the football money line to determine which kind of money line bet you wish to place. Your bookmaker or sports book site will publish or provide this information to you. For example, the money line might be Manchester United -150, Draw +220 and Blackburn Rovers +350. To read the money line, you need to know first that the plus sign indicates the predicted underdog while the minus sign points to the favourite. However, you might find a money line where both teams are indicated with a plus sign. This is because neither team is favoured over the other. Since ties can occur in football, this sort of money line can happen. This is the opposite of what one would think. If a bettor wagers 15 pounds on Manchester United, they can win 10 pounds. If they choose to place a wager on Blackburn, they would place 10 pounds to win 35 pounds. In the case of a draw, the bettor again could wager 10 pounds in order to win 22 pounds. Another kind of sports bet that you can make on a football match is an over and under wager. This sort of sports bet focuses on the number of goals scored in the football match. Typically, this is set as a decimal number since the likelihood of that score is impossible. For instance, if the over and under bet is set at 2.5, this means for someone to win on an over bet, the score must be three or greater. On the other hand, to win the under bet, the total score would have to be two or less. About the Author
