Many patrons of casinos whether they be online or the more traditional brick and mortar ones, find that they enjoy poker for the mental game that it can provide over other casino games. With the game, comes the opportunity to employ many different strategies. One of these is that of bluffing. Bluffing occurs when a player continues betting even though they have a weak hand of cards. They do this in an attempt to convince other players to fold their cards and withdraw from the hand. You might say that without this facet of poker, it would not be as exciting as it is today.

Players that successful use bluffing strategies are more apt to win over time. If you always bet as you should with each hand, players will realize this and know when you really do have a good hand and vice versa. This form of deception is a necessary skill for any player of the game of poker.

There are different kinds of bluffs that can occur during a poker game. This variety stems from the fact that some bluffing strategies work more effectively than others given the situation. One form of bluffing is when a player makes a wager or raises even though they have a very poor hand. They want the other players to believe that they have a very powerful poker hand. This strategy can also work in reverse. Say you have a powerful hand; you might choose to bluff so that your fellow opponents believe your hand is weak.

Another kind of bluffing occurs when your bet or raise when the betting rounds are fairly inexpensive. This bluff happens because the players would like to obtain an additional card later in the hand when the bets begin to double. A third type of bluffing is betting with semi-bluff. This bet is used for hands that if they are called would more than likely not be the better card. However, the hand in question would have a better chance of outranking the other hands that initially called it. All three forms of bluffing can be used effectively and depending upon the specific situation, one would be more effective than the others.
