Breeders Cup Classic- Without a doubt, the Classic has proved to be one of the most exciting races in horse racing betting. It puts the best with the best, from all around the world! Also, being that it takes place in the fall; the superstars of racing are either tired from a long handicap campaign, or coming into it with time between races. It is a mile and a quarter and often has a large field of runners with all running styles. Of course, it attracts the best in racing, the best horses, the best jockeys, and some of the best trainers around. The Classic boasts such a large purse that now; even European grass horses are giving it a shot, and doing quite well! The thrilling stretch battle of 2001, showed just how tough horses from abroad could be. The great racehorse, Sakhee gave the defending champion Tiznow all he wanted as they went toe to toe through the stretch. Tiznow, being one of the all time greats, prevailed by a nose to become the only two-time winner of the Classic. This past year we were thrilled by the stretch run of, not one, but two European horses. Raven's Pass ran a spectacular race to win the Classic!

He and Henrythenavigator rallied past eventual fourth place finisher and American hope, Curlin. Curlin was trying to match Tiznow with two consecutive Breeders Cup Classic victories. Curlin ran a stellar race and showed the world that he is a class act. It just shows how difficult winning two Classics can be....let alone consecutively. The jockeys and trainers that are present in the Classic are a regular "who's who in the Hall of Fame". Jockey's like Pat Day, Laffit Pincay Jr, Bill Shoemaker, Chris McCarron, Jorge Velasquez, Jerry Bailey, Eddie Delahoussaye and Mike Smith have all won the Breeders Cup Classic. Chris McCarron and Jerry Bailey have won this prestigious race an astounding five times! The trainers are pretty good too! The Classic has been won by greats like Charlie Whittingham, Jack Van Berg, Carl Nafzger, Neil Drysdale, Andre Fabre, Bill Mott, D. Wayne Lucas, Jay Robbins, Richard Mandella and Bobby Frankel. Now that is a list of some of the best trainers ever to put a saddle on a racehorse! The late Charlie Whittingham and Jay Robbins are the only two-time winners of the Classic. Mr. Whittingham won with greats Ferdinand and Sunday Silence, while Mr. Robbins won his two Classics with the same horse, the incomparable Tiznow. Well, let us not forget to mention the great race horses that have won this ultimate test. As mentioned, Tiznow is the only horse to win the Classic more than once. He gave racing fans two unbelievable performances! He won the 2000 Classic by a neck, and then won the next year by just a nose! Skip Away romped home to win the Classic by six lengths in 1997, and Volponi won by six and a half lengths in 2002. The Classic also had such victorious stars as A.P. Indy, Unbridled, Sunday Silence, Alysheba, Ferdinand, Black Tie Affair, Skywalker, Awesome Again, Curlin, Invasor, Proud Truth, Saint Liam, Ghostzapper, Pleasantly Perfect, Cat Thief, Arcangues, Alphabet Soup, Concern, Raven's Pass, and one of the greatest ever, champion Cigar!
