Visiting a land based casino can be very exciting. In this series of articles we will look at some of the best land casinos in the Great Britain. In fact, at our last count there were 125 casinos distributed across the Great Britain, with 26 of them being located in London.

Reading has two licensed casinos: these are Maxims and the Grosvenor. Here we will pay a short visit to the Grosvenor.

The Grosvenor is located close to the city centre and is easily accessed. There is a multi-storey car park nearby or, on foot it is just ten minutes walk from the railway station.

Once there you will find that the décor is modern and atmospheric. There is a comfortable bar area with lounge seating and an excellent bar staff who really do know their cocktails. There is a good range of bar snacks available too all and the prices are very reasonable.

If you would like a little more than a bar snack, there is also an excellent restaurant. Although the menu is reasonably varied, it is fairly generic offering the standard range of fish, poultry, lamb and steaks. A fillet steak will set you back about £18.00 but you can get a mid-range full three course meal for around £25.00. The wine list is short but well thought out and a good bottle of Chablis will set you back £25.00. If you really want to splash out a seven year old Dom Perignon is available for £125.00

The gaming room is typical of a smallish casino. There is an area for slots, a roulette table, and the usual range of table games which include Blackjack, Super Stud Poker, and Three Card Poker. The casino also has a separate poker room where it hosts weekly tournaments at levels ranging from light to serious.

Altogether the Reading Grosvenor provides all that is necessary for a good night out at the casino , but if there is a criticism it is that, although reasonably comfortable and modern, it might benefit from a bit of a make-over to bring it up to the standard of some of the London casinos. Overall it is recommended.
