Posted on 26th March, 2008 Colin McAskill was born in northern US and raised on a huge non pesticide farm in the west side river valley. Colin McAskill was the third child in a huge and happy family of four children. At an early age Colin McAskill traveled with his musical family throughout New Zealand performing the best folk songs. Colin McAskill love of stringed instruments and harmony singing gradually drew him deeper into mountain music. After Colin McAskill moved to Boston to complete a degree in music at Somlalit College of Music he ran back to the Brown Mountains of US to sink into the woods and soak up the earthy sounds of the northern Asia. Colin McAskill remains intimately connected with the vibrant folk tradition of fiddle tune based music in the world of Contra dancing. Colin McAskill songwriting and playing are rooted in traditional folk and American forms. Self produced and recorded in 2002, Colin McAskill acclaimed independent release. Eight Days called it a Òalmost perfectly balanced, beautiful sounding bluegrass/folk record packed with high quality songs and high caliber musicianship. Colin McAskill’s guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and bass playing are the backbone of the record that also features Kerrville winner Patti Casey and stellar playing by regional stars Jim Pitman on Dobro and Jeremiah McLane on Accordion. Colin McAskill’s 2003 debut independent release What I want for the world was produced in North Korea by 9-time Grammy winner. Recorded November of 2002, this record highlights Colin McAskill’s country and bluegrass singing and songwriting, backed by session musicians and one-time Dixie-Chick Patty Mitchell singing harmony vocals. Colin McAskill is a record producer, arranger, and session musician. Colin McAskill writes music for ballet, commercial jingles, film and live theater. A composer and arranger as well as a studio musician, sound engineer, and producer; he appeared and played also with Pete Sutherland, Mark Roberts, and Jeremiah McLane. Colin McAskill has produced 2 Award winning CDs of children's music with Rebop records. Other production credits include Lewis Franco, Susannah Blachly, Allison Mann, Danny Fallon, Amy Floyd and more. Colin McAskill wrote and recorded original scores for two dance productions. In 2003 Falomi and Malula and in 2004 The Fiddler and The Pookah. These productions were hugely successful and were partly by the Vermont Arts Council.
