Fun and Entertainment for the Entire FamilySubmitted by echo_promotions Thu, 20 Mar 2008
At Deer Valley there are so many activities to participate in, but Utah Olympic Park is a must see. It is located just 5 miles from the Deer Valley ski resort; this huge complex was home to the 2002 Winter Olympic bobsled, luge, skeleton, and some ski jumping events. Although the Olympics are long gone, this park still offers great fun for the whole family both winter and summer. Make sure you schedule this in on your Deer Valley vacation itinerary.
Utah Olympic Park is located in a attractive spot only a couple minutes away from Deer Valley and has something for everyone. In the winter months, people who are ready to pay the fee can ride The Comet on the bobsled track. This aggressive bobsled ride can get up to 80 miles per hour and applies 5Gs on the athletes. You travel down the track with two friends and a driver, complete the three-mile distance in under a minute. This is not for the faint of heart, but it is an amazing experience for the courageous soul. In the summer months, The Comet is outfitted with wheels and travels down a concrete track. The ride is not quite as difficult but still fun and less expensive. A few other rides available for the adventurous summer guest include two zip lines where you can zip above the beautiful scenery at speeds up to fifty miles per hour and the Quicksilver alpine slide. This slide is a relatively new addition to the park and offers fun for children as young as three accompanied by an adult. For those who don't feel a need for speed, there are plenty of things to do that do not involve a seat belt or a harness. Only a few steps away from the parking area is the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center inside of which are two museums. One gives visitors a nostalgic look at ski history and the 2002 Olympic Museum showcases pictures and other memories from the olympic games. Guests can also take a guided (or self-guided) tour of the park to view its facilities. Other than the bobsled track, there are 6 Nordic ski jumps and jumps for freestyle aerials. During the summer months you can see freestyle aerialists practicing their tricks and flips as they hurtle off a ski jump and into a 750,000-gallon-pool. The practice pool is utilized in the summer to allow freestyle jumpers to perfect their tricks. Whether you desire to experience a piece of Olympic history, winding down the bobsled track at incredible speeds, or simply enjoying the fine scenery; this park has something to offer everybody. Package deals can be purchased for individuals who desire to participate in a combination of activities. NOTE: Use of this article requires links to be intact. About the Author
