The 1975 World Series of Poker was held at Binion's Horseshoe in May of 1975. This World Series of Poker was the 6th one to ever take place.

The Preliminary events included $ 1,000 Seven Card Razz, $1,000 Deuce to Seven Draw, $5,000 No Limit Texas hold ‘em, and $1,000 Seven Card Stud. The $ 1,000 Seven Card Razz was won by Sam Angel who claimed 17,000 dollars in the process. The $1,000 Deuce to Seven Draw was captured by Billy Baxter, who ended up winning $35,000 dollars in the event. The prize for the $5,000 No Limit Texas hold ‘em went to Jay Heimowitz, who earned $32,000 dollars. The last of the preliminary events, the $1,000 Seven Card Stud was won by Johnny Moss, who collected $44,000.

Though these are all significant prizes, they are only Preliminary events to the biggest competition in the competitive poker world. The Main Event is of course what everyone is waiting for each year.

The Main Event included a field of 21 people in 1975. Each of the participants was required to present an entry fee of ten thousand dollars in order to participate in this popular event.

In 1975, the World Series of Poker made history by creating an award for the winner of a special gold bracelet.

The winner of the Main Event was Brian "Sailor" Roberts. Brian "Sailor" Roberts had had success in the World Series of Poker before, but never the way he did that year in the process of winning two hundred and ten thousand dollars. The previous year Brian "Sailor" Roberts won the $5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event. This was the first Bracelet that he had earned in his career.

Due to the difficulty of making a career out of poker in those days, there were players that would form gangs to protect each other. These gangs would help each other get through problems. Roberts was known for being in one of these gangs. In order for Roberts to win this World Series of Poker he had to outplay some great competition. This competition included members of his gang, Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim. Also present at the World Series of Poker this year was Johnny Moss, Puggy Pearson and Jesse Alto. Johnny Moss is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Puggy Pearson had been a champion previously. There was plenty of competition at the table.

Roberts displayed aggressive play in the World Series of Poker that year and it carried him to the final three. The other people present for the final three were Crandell Addington and Bob Hooks. Addington held strong for a while, but eventually fell, leaving just Hooks and Roberts.

Hooks made a big move in hopes to get a flush. Roberts had pocket jacks and was able to hold strong during the move of Hooks. This gave Roberts the win in the series and put him down in World Series of Poker history as the winner of the 1975 World Series of Poker.
