Craps Basics, How to Play, Strategy, Plus History of the GameSubmitted by ankur.vyas Tue, 24 Feb 2009
Craps
Craps, formerly known as Crapaud (means "toad" in French), is a dice rolling game. It is a complex and advanced version of an old English game called "Hazard". In craps, players may wager money against each other or the casino on the outcome of one roll, or on a series of rolls of two dice. As it requires little equipment, craps can easily be played, and is popular among soldiers. Side bets are more frequent, with one or several participants covering bets against the dice. The player rolling the dice is called the shooter. and the first roll is called "come out roll", 7 & 11 are the winning numbers and 2, 3 & 12 are the losing numbers. However, if the shooter hits 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 it will be marked as his "points" and if the player hit the same numbers as his points before hitting 7 he will win, but if he hits 7 before then he will lose and the turn will go to the next player. The next player can pass this turn of shooting the dice and continue betting. The player agreeing to be the shooter will have to pay at least the table minimum on "Win" or "Right" or "Don't Win" or "Wrong" bets for the outcome of a shooter's. The right to roll the dice is rotated clockwise around the craps table. Once a player is ready to roll the dice the Stickman provide the player with 5 dice of which the player will take two and return the rest. The shooter then starts the come out roll. Pass Line Bet With this bet, players are assuming that the shooter will roll the point number before they roll a 7. This type can also be won if a 7 or 11 are rolled on the come out roll. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 are thrown on the come out roll, the casino allows bettors to take odds, this means casinos allow players to place from 1 to 5 or more times the pass line bet behind the line. If the point is rolled again before a 7 is rolled, this additional bet automatically wins. If you roll a 7 before the point is rolled, then you lose and it is called sevening out. Don't Come Bet It means the player is wagering on the fact that a 7 will come before a point throw. Conversely, on the come out throw a 7 or 11 means the player loses, whereas a 2, 3, or a 12 automatically wins. Proposition Bets These are usually found in the center of a craps table. These bets generally have a much higher house advantage, but with the potential for players to increase their earnings dramatically if they win one of these bets. There are various proposition bets. A few common proposition bets include the "One Roll bet", which wagers that the player will roll an 11, 3, 2, or 12. A "hardway proposition bet" means the player is betting on the fact that the shooter will make a hardway number such as 4-4, the hard 4 (2-2), or hard 10 (5-5.) This proposition also wagers that the shooter can roll a hard 6 (3-3) or a hard 8 (4-4). Strategy The first craps strategy is to place the six. A player can never tell how well or bad a roll is going to be ahead of time. Most players fall under one of two categories in placing bets. They either leave their bet up or take the initial win over and over or they take their bet down and miss out on a big roll. The term to remember here is "press". When you press your bet, you increase it. A good strategy is to take the winnings on your first hit and then press on the next hit. Follow that with a rotation of taking and pressing. Then the pass line bet in Craps is one of the best bets in the casino. Try to take the most of it. If a player is not certain about the bet ask the dealer if the bet is correct.
