Dublin Removed From Belmont GamblingSubmitted by topspot Tue, 25 May 2010
One of many contenders in Belmont wagering is out as Dublin has been taken out of consideration for the Belmont Stakes on June 5th.
Dublin raced in both the Kentucky Derby and in Preakness but he is definitely not on the board in Belmont odds. Belmont wagering will not have a great deal of star power considering that Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Preakness winner Lookin at Lucky will not be in the race. Now that Dublin has been eliminated, there will not be a horse in Belmont odds that will have raced in all three Triple Crown events. It is the first time since 2006 since that has occurred. Dublin finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby and he was fifth in the Preakness. Five horses from the Derby came back to race in the Preakness but none of them are going in the Belmont. Dublin was going to be the horse that raced in all of them but trainer D. Wayne Lukas resolved to let the horse take a break. Lukas explained that Dublin "has had five races in 12 weeks." Dublin will be pointed to some other events like the Haskell or Jim Dandy before the Breeders' Cup in early November. "The race in front of you always looms the most important one," said Lukas. "Then once you get past that, the next one has the greatest magnitude. Knowing how that goes, we'll sit this one out and wait for the next series of big races." Lukas has a good record training horses, and is viewed as one of the most effective American thoroughbred horse trainers ever. He started off by training quarter horses in the 60s. After a decade of demonstrated skill training champions, he moved on to thoroughbred racehorses. Lukas was the 1st trainer to earn over $100 million in purses. His horses have won numerous times in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, the Belmont Stakes, and has won the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders' Cup more than any trainer. In March 2007 he was the 1st trainer to be inducted into both the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Halls of Fame. Lookin at Lucky's trainer Bob Baffert will most likely still have a starter in the Belmont since he is aiming to send Game on Dude. The Belmont may still be a good race with Derby second place finisher Ice Box the likely favorite. Also in the mix should be Preakness runner-up First Dude and Dwyer Stakes winner Fly Down. Dwyer second place finisher Drosselmeyer should also be in the mix. Nick Zito trains Ice Box and Fly Down whilst Dale Romans trains First Dude. "I think it's a great race to win regardless," Romans said regarding the field. "With horses like Ice Box, Fly Down and my horse, it'll be a good race." Romans' filly Tapitsfly lately won him his 1st Breeders Cup in 2009. His horse Roses in May provided him with a huge $6 million win at the Dubai World Cup in 2005. He has been training horses since age 18. There will certainly be some longshots in the Belmont field with some trainers trying to get a big payoff vs a supposed poor Belmont Stakes field. That may make the exacta, trifecta and superfecta well worth playing on Saturday, June 5th.
