Horse Race Betting: Challenge the OddsSubmitted by David Salt Thu, 28 May 2009
There's no such thing as a ‘get rich quick' scheme, right? No necessarily. If you're feeling lucky, you might have a go at sports betting.
Recently, a bloke won £65,000 on £30 bet! True, the odds of him winning were 11,484 to 1, which he did not realize at the time, or he may have chosen not to bet at all. Good thing he didn't pay attention to the odds! And really, isn't that what sports betting is all about? Disregard the odds and have a go. Sports betting is about the thrill of the sport, the possibility of winning amongst the cheers of the crowd. Take the Cheltenham races, for instance. About 230,000 fans showed up during race week, laying out £500m in bets during this four-day annual National Hunt Festival. And why not? Where else but the races can you put down your pounds next to such an eclectic bunch? There are lords of the manner, chaps in there tweed, business types from London and Joe from down at the pub, all jostling to place that last bet. It makes for peculiar theatre, but all the players have common interests, love of the sport and putting down their bets. Lots of people do it! Horseracing is second only to football in the UK. And not only in attendance - in sporting revenues as well. Whether you are a seasoned better or a novice, the thrill of placing the bet never grows old. With all the money being handed around in horseracing, it's a chance a better could win a lot of it. And you needn't be present to place your bet. Bookies are happy to handle your bet if you can't make it to racetrack. If you find a good one, stay with him. Without calculating the odds, droves of race fans put down their money for a chance at a big payout. And some no doubt, went home richer for having taking the chance. So, the next time a horse catches your eye, you like his name or his colours, try a couple of pounds. Who knows, you may be the next big winner! About the Author
