The dangers of Online BingoSubmitted by waitetom Tue, 30 Jun 2009
When choosing where to play a game of online bingo your main concern should be safety. As with any online activity you need to be certain that you can trust the company or individual that you're dealing with. This applies more than ever when you're going to be handing over personal details, such as your address and your financial details. You're likely to need both of these to play online bingo.
But don't fear. Whilst there are many people out there who are ready to try and take your money or otherwise cause you hassle, you can, by following a few simple steps, steer completely clear of them. The best way to avoid falling foul of a scam is word of mouth. If a bingo site is misusuing member's details then you'll hear about it, thanks to a number of online bingo forums where victims can report situations. If you've read up to here you may think we're trying to put you off having a game of online bingo. We're not... There are many great bingo portals out there, such as Bingo Paradise which review bingo websites and give the public a place to make comments on them. If a site is features on Bingo Paradise you can be sure that it has been used by many players and you may find a few 'interesting' discussions on the practices of certain bingo websites. When you arrive at a bingo website you need to make sure it's secure and above board, you can do this by looking for an 'About Us' link. You should look for a physical location where the company is located and a land line phone number. Remember, scam artists do not want to be traced, if you're really concerned just find another site, or if you particulary want to use the site in question do your research, does the address match an actual location, is there someone at the end of the line? Is the company registered, etc. Once you've decided that a site is trustworthy and you're ready to enter your financial details your guard should still be in place, always look for the Secure authentication sign, when you enter your details a little padlock icon will appear in the bottom of your browser, this shows that the site has a security certificate and that your details are being handled securely. All reputable sites should have SSL data protection. If you find one that does'nt you may want to ask them way. Remember, failure to provide a good answer should prompt you to go elsewhere to play online bingo . In the past, members of certain sites have complained that their details have been misused, for example they've signed up to 'bingo site x' and then recieved un-solicited mail, advertising 'bingo site y'. Unfortunately this does happen and often there is nothing you can do about it because at some point you've agreed to terms and conditions which make these activities lawfully acceptable. The only way to avoid falling foul of such situations is to read the terms and conditions of the bingo site when you sign up. It's a gruelling process but really you ought to know what you're signing up for! Had'nt you? Hopefully now you've read this article you should have a few principles to apply to each bingo website to help you stay safe. It's mostly common sense and the underlying fact is that you would never give out your details, personal or financial to a stranger in a real life situation. With a few simple precautions staying safe in the online bingo world should be simple. About the Author
